Long-tailed Broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae)

12th February 2011

A day visit at Tambunan Rafflesia Centre with Joe and Sis produced few interesting birds with pictures especially the Long-tailed Broadbill as seen here with Whitehead's Spiderhunter and my lifer the sub-adult Rusty-breasted Cuckoo :)

These pair was seen feeding nearby and then flew into their nest just above my head on the same tree with the elusive Whitehead's Spiderhunter feeding nectars on the reddish colour flowers.

Sometimes birders referred this bird as wearing helmet !

Happy birding folks and I will be away on birding tours until the end of March. Will update my blog while on the move :)

Long-tailed Broadbill (Psarisomus dalhousiae)

26th January 2010

One of the attractive Broadbill species found in Borneo mostly above 1500m from the sea level. Best place to see this bird is along Crocker Range especially at Tambunan Rafflesia Centre about 1 hour 30 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu to the South.

Found few pairs in the process of building its nest along the busy road together with Andrew and Neil recently. Other key species seen and heard :
  • Mountain Serpent Eagle
  • Crimson-headed Partridge
  • Red-breasted Partridge
  • Kinabalu Leafbird
  • Bornean Bulbul
  • Whitehead's Spiderhunter

My Long-tailed Broadbill Hahaha :p

9th February 2009

Drove early this morning with Andy from York, England to Tambunan Rafflesia Centre for Bornean endemics such as Mountain and Bornean Barbet (Heard only ...), but had a good view of Cinereus and Bornean Bulbul with Bornean Leafbird.

Besra and Blyth's Hawk Eagle was a bonus for today's trip.

And one particular star bird seen was this !

Hahaha my first picture of this uncommon bird in Borneo and my last sighting of this species was last year together with the Gang, but it was only brief. Shot taken with my lovely Sony Ericsson K660i cellphone hand held to the scope hehehe :p

After breakfast, saw another pair at the beginning of the trail :)
