After her trip on the East coast of Sabah ended, we visited Mt. Trusmadi, Mt. Alab including Mt. Kinabalu and Tempasuk Plain for casual birding. The highlight was the Blue-naped Parrot at Tg. Aru Beach before the airport!

Terns at Labuan Island

 13-15th July 2026

We observed and photographed three species of terns—Black-naped, Roseate, and Bridled Terns—at the Layang-Layang Geopark islet, located approximately 500 metres offshore from Kg. Layang-Layangan. The colony included several juveniles patiently waiting for their parents to return with food.

On the afternoon of the 14th, an exceptionally low spring tide allowed us to approach the islet much more closely than usual, providing excellent opportunities to observe and photograph these breeding seabirds with minimal disturbance. Witnessing both the adults and their dependent young at such close range was a memorable highlight of the visit.
